I am grateful for this kind community, both within my peer group and the #me wider network. I would definitely recommend the course to everyone and would like to encourage all individuals to participate in the course. I genuinely believe it will benefit all individuals - regardless of their background, previous knowledge, interests, goals, degree and social competence. Leave all expectations behind and jump in - trust me, you'll be grateful to your past self! No matter how overwhelming life was, coming together each week made us all feel less-stressed, calm and happy. Furthermore, the strategies provided have been highly useful and helpful, which has led me to share them with my family as well. I have been fascinated about the logbook's structure, explanation videos and coping cards every week. I do indeed feel that the logbook has captured everything necessary and even added additional information which goes well beyond simple, core knowledge. I do not think I am even able to count the number of times I have positively spoken about this course to others. I would lastly like to outline that I appreciate the support the course and its team offers, in addition to the highly beneficial weekly content!
Second Year Social Sciences and Humanities Female Student, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1
I love the way the course encourages you to connect with people. Making friends at uni can be so difficult, but it's such a relief to know you're not alone. It's so rewarding to support other people and is also a great way to help yourself when you're afraid to contact mental health services on campus. Helping to tackle the smaller, day-to-day issues makes you feel more able to deal with the deeper stuff. I now feel more able to talk about those things. I would really recommend this because it has helped me to feel more confident in connecting with people and facing daily life.
Second Year Sport, Exercise and Health Science Female Student, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1

Fourth Year Sport, Exercise and Health Science Female Student, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1
I think the course was really well structured and easy to facilitate and all of the content in the logbook was appropriate and helpful - especially the stage 1/2/3 reflections. It has been an overwhelmingly positive experience that has really helped me to improve my social confidence and public speaking. I would definitely recommend this course because as a facilitator, it's really helped me to improve my confidence to be more outgoing and take a leading role in conversations. I had a social communication disorder (autism) so I'm aware that whilst I really do enjoy others company, social skills are just something that hasn't come naturally to me and I get anxious before social events/interactions because of this. However, through having to actively participate in the conversations each week, it's helped me to become more conversational and less intimidated by making mistakes in social interactions. It's helped me to cope better with my anxiety so that I can genuinely enjoy other's company more rather than being so worked up about what to say. So I just really appreciated having this opportunity to see each week that I was competent enough to achieve this and challenge my negative thoughts. It's a great experience to focus on improving yourself and your wellbeing with a group of like-minded people.
Fourth Year Sport, Exercise and Health Science Male Student, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1

It is good and should be provided to everyone I think.
Masters Design and Creative Arts Male Student, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1
Weekly meetings can be a good access to self reflection. The insight from other like minded people has been incredibly valuable and reassuring.
Masters Design and Creative Arts Female Student, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1
It’s very helpful and interesting. I can know more about myself.
Masters Sport, Exercise and Health Science Female Student, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1
#Me was a positive and worthy experience. Helping to understand oneself and others and having the opportunity to express, share experiences, learn about ourselves and others. It helped us all to be less judgemental. I was very sceptical and conscious at first but I definitely don’t regret having signed up. It was a delightful experience meeting people and opening up about our experiences which sometimes is hard to find in a rushed world nowadays.
Masters Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering Male Student, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1
Really good chance for communication and support. Hope more people can do it.
Masters Sport, Exercise and Health Science Male Student, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1
It’s a safe space to share your feelings without judgment and you aren’t forced into anything you’re not comfortable doing.

This course actually allowed me to access help when I needed it most.
Masters Social Sciences and Humanities Female Student, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1
I most enjoyed engaging with myself and my life. #Me helped me not only to understand myself but also to guide me to improve myself. By looking in and talking about my emotions and habits, I was able to make a plan and set a goal just right for me. I’m really glad that I had an opportunity to participate in this course.

I would wholeheartedly recommend the course to others because it’s very useful.
Masters Sport, Exercise and Health Science Female Student, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1
This is a very good opportunity for an international student. It definitely helped me to adjust to a new environment and to socialise.
Masters Sport, Exercise and Health Science Female Student, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1
I was feeling isolated before doing the course since I come from abroad. Having people to safely and freely talk to without being judged was a great booster for me, especially when I am going through a tough phase in my psychotherapy and changing meds which can be overwhelming and tiring. My group were outstanding and such good listeners. I would recommend HashtagMe because it is providing a safe space to talk and vent but with being guided at the same time about what you are sharing. It is inclusive and gives the sense of being supported and that you are not alone. The log book was a great tool to track and understand the details of my days and weeks which can be lost between life’s events and university work.
Masters Sport, Exercise and Health Science Female Student, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1
I made good friends. Everyone was kind and supportive.
Masters Design and Creative Arts Male Student, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1

Masters Social Sciences and Humanities Female Student, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1
At the very least you will learn something about your own well-being and behaviours and definitely a few strategies to help cope with that aspect to reduce any stress and anxiety.

It's helped me and I really think it can help others.
Masters Sport, Exercise and Health Science Male Student, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1
I would recommend the #me course because my aim of joining the course was to build resilience. Showing the little dedication (especially, in filling the logbook), I gained the resilience naturally. Additionally, many other benefits relating to mental wellbeing have also been gained.
Masters Aeronautical, Automotive, Chemical and Materials Engineering Male Student, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1
Truly an amazing experience. I think it was well structured and the way they match groups is brilliant. I think it’s a great way to start university, and build healthy habits to excel.

It gives me more chance to reflect on myself because I need to describe my experience and feelings to others.
Masters Design and Creative Arts Female Student, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1
It’s a great way to get you out of your room and connecting with others. I enjoyed meeting people who are similar to me but also from different backgrounds and with different perspectives. It gave me new insights to myself and helped me grow as a person. I struggle with being shy but I felt comfortable talking about any issues I was having or just about myself in general. The topics each week were great and taught me a lot. I am glad to have the book, cards and videos to look back to when I am struggling.
Masters Design and Creative Arts Female Student, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1
It helps us make new friends and get peer support.

It helps engage with the student community whilst also committing to invest in one’s own well-being.
Masters Social Sciences and Humanities Female Student, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1
This course was really great and very interesting. A good outlet to discuss on mental health issues with a constant group of people. I would recommend because people are so patient to listen.
PhD 2nd Year Design and Creative Arts Female Student, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1
I strongly recommend other people join #Me. It’s fantastic!
PhD 3rd Year Aeronautical, Automotive, Chemical and Materials Engineering Male Student, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1
Because it is a way of networking, seeking help and giving you tools for all aspects of your life, I would recommend it to first time students (undergraduate degree or PhD), especially who live away from home. Sometimes it’s much easier to express yourself to a ‘stranger’ than to loved ones because a stranger will not judge or make comments, and sometimes you just need someone who will listen. So it was encouraging to see people open up and share their problems as a problem shared is a problem halved.
PhD 1st Year Sport, Exercise and Health Science Male Student, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1
It is helpful and makes you feel better. It has been an amazing experience and has helped me become more compassionate and self aware.

This is an amazing way to meet peers outside of your own school that are going through similar experiences.
PhD 2nd Year Sport, Exercise and Health Science Female Student, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1
It really added value to my life.
PhD 1st Year Sport, Exercise and Health Science Male, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1
I would highly recommend the course to any level of student. While university is fun and enjoyable, it is also a significant source of stress. Getting the balance right, learning how to cope with stress, building healthy habits etc. are all essential for an enjoyable university experience. Every student should, subsequently, be introduced to the #Me course. Although the whole experience was incredibly insightful and very well organised, the final session when everyone came together and reflected back on the 12 weeks was certainly my highlight. Everyone recognized how far they had come on their journey, many recognising how much more self-aware they had become and unconsciously picked up healthier habits. This was a rewarding experience!
PhD 2nd Year Sport, Exercise and Health Science Male Student, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1
It provided great psychological support. Very rewarding experience.
PhD 2nd Year Sport, Exercise and Health Science Male Student, 2021-2022 #Me Course 1
“A very sociable environment which is good for self-improvement. It gave me strategies to cope with issues I face everyday. It also helped me build my resilience and emotional intelligence.”
- 1st year Sport, Exercise and Health Science female student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“It gives my week structure, and a chance to meet and relate to like-minded students. I think it was nice to hear others are dealing with similar things even if they are on different courses. Thank you ! <3”
- 1st year Sport, Exercise and Health Science female student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“I really liked meeting other people and helping them. I also loved the activity in which we had to write a compliment for each member as many times we feel that others are judging us, and that we are not good enough, but compliments coming from others, seems very nice and positive. It is great and helped me with things which I didnt even know I needed help with.”
- 1st year Sport, Exercise and Health Science female student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“Working with another co-facilitator was really comforting and the collaborating was much better than doing it alone. I enjoyed working as a group to turn around everyone’s day when it had not been so good so that they left the session happier. There isn’t anything to be improved for me! It’s such an easy and great way to meet like-minded people in a similar situation!”
- 1st year Sport, Exercise and Health Science female student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“I have really enjoyed having a new group of people to talk to and share my experiences with. Especially with this year being such a difficult one, I think that being able to support others has been a very rewarding experience. I feel more knowledgeable and in control of my mental health.”
- 2nd year Sport, Exercise and Health Science female student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“People think you need to have a serious mental health problem to seek some guidance. This isn’t the case and #Me promotes that well. I loved being able to talk to a new group of people. And as a facilitator it was wonderful hearing the attendees say that something they tried or that we talked about in the sessions was really helpful for them!”
- 2nd year Sport, Exercise and Health Science female student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“#Me is a great place to meet new and like-minded people who share the same values/perspectives as you. It has a safe environment that allows you to share your experiences and realise that the feelings you have are what other people are also feeling but it is just one way to step out of your comfort zone.”
- 3rd year Sport, Exercise and Health Science female student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“Was very helpful hearing ideas and feelings with people in similar simulations. Especially nice that it was someone I didn't know so there were no expectations. Basically it was a casual and more relaxed way to get help/support.”
- 3rd year Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering male student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“I enjoyed being able to apply the skills I had learnt when previously attending whilst taking on a supportive role for my peers as a facilitator this time around. The course helps to apply certain things that are commonly advised but that we often overlook or do not properly make use of.”
- 3rd year Sport, Exercise and Health Science female student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“This was a really eye opening experience. Gives you a chance to openly talk about how you are feeling and build an understanding of the people around you. One thing we had in our group was the fact that a few people were on the same course, and all of looked up to each other.”
- 4th year Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering male student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“It was great to have a blocked-out time to dedicate to myself and my wellbeing when previously i had put it to the side for so long. It allowed an outlet for my emotions and thoughts. My group were very supportive and I liked how it brought everyone from different groups together. I also loved the idea of having the list of things to do when you wake up.”
- 4th year Design and Creative Arts female student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
It makes you realise the importance of taking care of your mental well-being. But with this course you don’t need to do much and you'll still pick up useful tips and tricks that aid in your mental wellbeing. It lets you meet like-minded students and learn about yourself and self-development tactics.
- 4th year Sport, Exercise and Health Science female student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“#Me was manageable with my studies and an excellent in between of not having support vs counselling. I fact it’s the best mental health support I’ve had. Being in a peer group shows how everyone experiences similar difficulties throughout their time at University and I really liked the layout of the logbook too.”
- 4th year Sport, Exercise and Health Science female student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“I think everyone should get a chance to talk about their feelings and thoughts openly without the fear of being judged. #Me helped me learn so much about myself and others as well for which I will be forever thankful.”
- Masters Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering female student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“Everything was really good, the meetings ran smoothly, the diary was nicely laid out and perfect to use, and the facilitators were great too. It was nice to meet some other students who I wouldn't have known otherwise, and to talk about personal stuff non-judgementally.”
- Masters Computer Science male student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“I feel like I've met some great people, and it was nice going forward each week knowing I could have a regular catch up with people and build friendships with others doing PhDs. Great organisation and I believe if it was advertised more, even more people would join and benefit.”
- PhD Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering male student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“It was really well organised and an enjoyable hour each week! A great platform to meet like minded students who understand complications and pressures of life. Thank you to the facilitators of my group to #Me for this opportunity! I wish the programme every success for the future and hope even more people get positive experiences from it!”
- Masters Social Sciences and Humanities female student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“It helped me in so many ways and i think others could benefit from this same help as it’s such a good way to keep checking in on yourself and not feel alone in what you’re going through. We built a great community and all got so many benefits. I’d sum it up as revitalising!”
- PhD Social Sciences and Humanities female student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“I really enjoyed the logbook writing as it helped me to set time for reflection and the exercises were also really helpful. Overall it has helped me gain some perspective, and improved my objective thinking and emotional resilience.”
- PhD Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering female student, 2020/2021 Semester 2

- 2nd Year Design and Creative Arts Female Student, 2020/2021 Semester 1
“The groups were extremely well thought out. It was strange in a way because the people that I was in a group with didn’t seem like people I’d ever meet and naturally get on with but we did!”
- 3rd Year Chemistry and Physics Male Student, 2020/2021 Semester 1
“It has helped me meet like-minded people and discuss coping strategies. By having such structured sessions, I have improved my wellbeing and ability to cope in difficult situations. It really has been life-changing.”
- Placement Year Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering Female Student, 2020/2021 Semester 1

4th Year Business and Economics Female Student, 2020/2021 Semester 1
“Covid and lockdown has naturally been a big hit to my mental health, but I'm dealing with it better than I might have done had I not been involved in #Me. It's really nice meeting during this time of uncertainty and being part of a group that take care of and respects one another. I'm more resilient for it.”
- Masters Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering Male Student, 2020/2021 Semester 1
“The pandemic has been strongly influencing my mental health, but this course has been a real asset during this time. It was a really eye-opening course and has made me a lot more self-aware. Everyone is equal to one another in the sessions and the program is well structured and very useful. Thank you so much, this course has been a real highlight of 2020 for me and I really appreciate how much effort and work has gone into it.”
- PhD Female Student, 2020/2021 Semester 1
“#Me provided the opportunity to focus on mental wellbeing once a week and make space for it/yourself in the week. It highlighted the importance of self-care. I felt I could always speak freely and openly as everybody was really supportive and listened to me.”
- PhD Non-binary Student, 2020/2021 Semester 1
“I think I appreciated the most having the meetings weekly, as well as my group being in the same year and school. Having the meeting every week made it feel like a commitment, but to myself and my wellbeing as I would benefit from it every single time. Being in a group with business third year students made it easier to open up in relation to work related problems, as everyone is dealing with more or less the same issues. While my other friends would be advancing in work, there was some comfort of degree knowing that a group of 5 other students are having the same issues as me. My teammates sharing their own methods of coping was also very helpful. I picked up on different methods from them that I did not think about. It felt like a safe environment to share, and absolutely nobody would be judgemental, which I think was mainly luck of the amazing people we had in the group and the facilitators. The facilitators being students was also a nice touch, it felt nicer then talking to an adult or nhs worker who is not directly dealing with student life related problems. They were very engaging and nobody was left out even on the harder days. The logbook was very interesting, I have never seen something like that before and it felt like a useful tool to use further in the future. This course was amazing and at times more helpful then [than] the professional help, due to inclusiveness. Everyone was very relaxed and willing to listen, and at the same time willing to share. Our group chat was well utilised, with pet pictures and inspiring quotes, being always a reminder that there is someone there for you. I would recommend 100%. Too bad I am final year and wouldn't be able to do it again :( “
- 3rd Year Female Business Student, 2019/2020 Semester 2
‘I suffered from low moods and was quite lonely so I signed up to the #Me programme to try and help with some of the problems I was facing and simply to talk about it with others. I was initially scared for the first meeting but I immediately felt comfortable discussing things with my group because the facilitators did a really good job of making everyone feel so welcome. I really enjoyed being with a group of people where we could all talk so openly and get on so well. I learned that I’m not alone at all in how I feel and that it’s okay if every day is not ‘the best day of uni’. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this experience and benefited from it.”
- 1st Year Female Psychology Student, 2019/2020 Semester 2
“I’ve felt quite lonely and anxious during uni, especially during exam times, so I signed up hoping that this would help me to deal with my mental health problems more healthily with people who might be in a similar situation as me. It was great that every week I had a safe environment to talk about just random things with genuine people. I also enjoyed having the coping strategy cards at home so I could keep on top of my mental health and try the techniques and ideas for dealing with problems. Most of the time I overthink little things which only makes the issue worse. I’ve improved at controlling these anxious thoughts and focusing on how I can instead be more productive and put my thoughts into perspective. It’s been enlightening and I’m looking forward to partaking again next year. Thank you for this valuable opportunity!’
- 2nd Year Male Psychology Student, 2019/2020 Semester 2
“It was great being able to connect with people who are all at university so often going through very similar things. It was also great being able to cover so many different topics relating to wellbeing, and the things you learn on this course are things which will benefit you long after the course has finished. As a group we've decided to keep meeting. Its a group I can share with freely. Incredibly cathartic.”
- Masters Male Chemical Engineering Student, 2019/2020 Semester 2
“I have felt that even in this stressful situation of uncertainty due to the pandemic, and being a finalist of what the immediate future has in terms of career prospects, that having the #Me group and sessions along with the different coping mechanisms that have been shared has allowed me to overall reduce negative mental health in this period. Thanks all #Me group members for giving us so much help and resources. I’m really happy to be a facilitator and had many great meetings with my lovely members.”
- 3rd Year Male Social Sciences and Humanities Student, 2019/2020 Semester 2
“Thanks for all the effort put into the programme! It’s clear it’s a passion and the impact is definitely seen when people find out they are not alone in a lot of their problems. It makes it normal and it makes it all the more manageable! Even though Covid-19 hit and sort of derailed the meetings, I think the whole #ME team did an amazing group staying in communication and supporting everyone. We were a group of strangers at the start but as the weeks went on we were laughing a lot during the sessions, which was nice and de-stressing for us all. It builds great support between peers and meant that we felt comfortable to share our thoughts with others with is normally difficult when studying a PhD. Amazing idea and well executed.”
- PhD Female Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences Student, 2019/2020 Semester 2
“It was really rewarding to see everyone in the group opening up more, and the group growing closer as the weeks went on. I was super nervous before facilitating the first session as I'd never done anything like it before, but the sessions quickly became something I looked forward to, as I enjoyed seeing everyone in the group and hearing everything they had to say. I enjoyed seeing the positive effects that facilitating had on some members of my group, especially watching them grow in confidence and have more of a willingness to speak openly during group meetings. The responsibility made sure I checked in on my own wellbeing every week, which was really helpful as it's easy to forget to when lots else is going on.”
- PhD Male School of Science, Department of Mathematics Student, 2019/2020 Semester 2“
“I really liked the contributions/suggestions/recommendations of the other members; each member willingly offered advice and suggestions to each other covering every possible avenue from mental health, relaxation, studies, shopping etc. It helped with all aspects of my life.”
- Female 2nd year student, 2019/2020 Semester 1
“I enjoyed the sessions - they were a safe space to relax and chat with friends about concerns and stresses, as well as build each other up and give advice and recommendations. It was extremely beneficial and enjoyable to hear others opinions. I felt that I was listened to and understood, and I always felt better after going.”
- Male 1st year student, 2019/2020 Semester 1
“I really enjoyed the session with my group since it allowed me to reflect and think about something else aside from what usually goes around in my daily life. My group was helpful in giving supportive advice and it was nice to listen to what others had to say and relate to one another.”
- Male 3rd year student, 2019/2020 Semester 1

I would recommend the course as by week 8 I had built a close connection with all my group members, which I never thought was possible at the start of the course. It was vital that my group was non-judgemental and I could have social contact each week, the course provided me with just that. Some advice from me would be that you’re much more understandable than you think you are and there’s lots of others out there who feel similar things. #Me is a great opportunity for you to learn and understand this.

It's less scary than most mental health sessions and even if you don't say everything you're feeling, it's nice to know there's someone you could tell if you want to. Also, you're making a commitment to improving your own mental health when you join- it's easy to neglect it when you try to do it alone.

Third Year Chemistry and Physics Male, 2021-2022 #Me Course 2
When I started this experience I was in a really dark place, I was on a slippery slope with mental health and I didn't see a way back until I built up enough courage to join up. I was doubtful at the start but the more I answered the daily tasks and questions; the more I felt honest in myself, who I am and what I wanted. Now I feel like a happier, healthier person both mentally and physically. To me the course was more about becoming grounded as an individual and taking time out to self-reflect on who I am and where or what I'd like to be in my future. I think being able to share exercises/coping strategies in our group enabled us to really feel like a team. It broke down the negative stigma I had about myself since the beginning of the pandemic and allowed me to feel more value and confidence in myself.
Third Year Social Sciences and Humanities Male, 2021-2022 #Me Course 2

It will genuinely make you feel better just knowing you have that support group and coping strategies. Between the 2 semesters of #me I have done, I feel like I have grown a lot as a person. I've struggled to settle into uni life but I'm looking forward to finally meeting my #me group when I move back into halls next week!”
- 1st year Sport, Exercise and Health Science female student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“Teams was good for me as I had to leave university and it was really nice not having the stress of leaving #me and being able to still join in. It’s really helped me and a good way of making friends and maintaining those friendships.”
- 1st year Aeronautical, Automotive, Chemical and Materials Engineering female student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“It felt a very safe and non-judgmental space to talk. It is nice to know new people and you are not only one having the same problems. It was very insightful being part of this course.”
- 1st year Sport, Exercise and Health Science female student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“I had absolutely fantastic facilitators for my sessions, and am very glad I took this course when I did. It gives the opportunity to talk to others in similar situations, listen to their advice and make good friends. Such a worthwhile experience.”
- 1st year Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering female student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“I've always looked forward to our sessions, I've made friends, and it has helped me attach logic to emotions. I had enthusiastic and empathetic facilitators. It helped me in so many ways and I think others could benefit from this same help. I definitely appreciate the opportunity to talk about wellbeing openly with fellow students, and I think that has made these sessions more effective because I think it makes it feel more like we're coming together to work on our difficulties, rather than having a professional hand out 'answers', if that makes sense. I guess this also gives a sense of community. I appreciate this opportunity and I am grateful for it.”
- 2nd year Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering male student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“I felt like an equal in the meetings and was supported by attendees as well as my co-facilitator. I really enjoyed leading games and activities with the participants, it put us all at ease and it felt like we were just playing a game with friends. We even had meetings on weeks when there were workshops, just to play games and have a chat. It is an amazing opportunity to meet new people and share how you feel in an understanding environment where people want to hear and to have different kinds of conversations that may feel uncomfortable usually.”
- 2nd year Social Sciences and Humanities female student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“I’ve been involved in several of the #me courses and the format and content keeps improving each semester and has overall been a really good experience which has been a big part of my time here at uni! This semester in particular I was really happy with how well #Me made the transition from in-person to online! :)”
- 2nd year Sport, Exercise and Health Science female student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“In times like this (stressful), it is great to talk with other students who might be feeling the same (see that you are not alone) + have an explanation to why you might feel a certain way.”
- Placement year Sport, Exercise and Health Science female student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“I’ve really enjoyed my sessions - It’s given me something to look forward to every week! I’ve made great friends and had a brilliant outlet for my emotions and overcoming challenges. It’s been a remarkably helpful and enlightening experience.”
- 3rd year Sport, Exercise and Health Science female student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“I loved everything about #Me. I really benefited from meeting new people using the logbook and trying the coping strategies. It helped me get back on my feet when I was about to give it all up. Such a fulfilling experience.”
- Masters Chemistry and Physics female student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
It helped me in so many ways and i think others could benefit from this same help. They would not regret it. It was a very impressive course and experience.”
- Masters Business and Economics male student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“It helps you to understand yourself more and to see things from a different perspective. It’s also a great and easy way to meet other people and make life long friends. Even during the workshops, I especially liked the breakout rooms where you could speak to new people who aren't in your assigned #me groups. I felt liberated by the end of this course!”
- Masters Business and Economics female student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“Has created another support network of people in the same boat from a career-perspective and understand the unique burdens of academia. Thank you for creating and organising #Me, it's certainly made a difference personally and I'm sure our group is going to continue supporting one another moving forwards.”
- PhD Aeronautical, Automotive, Chemical and Materials Engineering male student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“What I liked most was the group’s similarities. Everyone has their own unique experiences, but being paired with individuals from a similar time point in their studies helped bonding and understanding, which was really important in talking through issues and opening up, especially when you’re a PhD student. I think the discussion and coping strategies encourage a healthy mindset and are tools and habits in which a person can use and develop in order to maintain a healthy mindset.”
- PhD Aeronautical, Automotive, Chemical and Materials Engineering male student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“#Me helps you become more self aware and it does change your way of thinking so that you are constantly questioning [whether] things really bring you joy and how you truly feel. It’s a great way to meet like-minded people, seek support, offer support and advice (which is so rewarding). Everyone can benefit from an organised time each week to talk about feelings and experiences. I’m very grateful to have come across #Me!”
PhD Sport, Exercise and Health Science female student, 2020/2021 Semester 2
“It’s good to be able to chat once a week with people during this period of time. It provides another way to break down the things going on in your head but not alone. I definitely understand myself better and feel more in control of my emotions and life. I also really appreciated how welcoming and friendly my facilitators were from the first day. They also participated in the course and the exercises so it felt like they were taking part just as much as we were so we could all benefit equally.”
- Foundation Year Sport, Exercise and Health Science Male Student, 2020/2021 Semester 1
“It’s really helped me get through this first term of uni otherwise I think I would have dropped out. I felt like I had a purpose and it’s made me realise that we are all in the same boat and helped me build my resilience to things going on in my uni course.”
- 1st Year Design and Creative Arts Female Student, 2020/2021 Semester 1
“These sessions provided something to do weekly outside of sports and studies. I enjoyed the time together and the diary has lots of useful information which I’m sure I’ll refer back to in future. It’s a good platform for expression and to seek understanding.”
- 2nd Year Sport, Exercise and Health Science Male Student, 2020/2021 Semester 1
“I really enjoyed facilitating the sessions. It helped me take control of my everyday routine which became very disturbed due to lockdown. It was a really useful experience for my own development as I became more confident at leading sessions. The feeling of helping others to learn how to self-care was very rewarding but equally, I still took part in the course and received the same benefits whilst also helping others. I met some great people and have plans to stay in touch in future.”
- 3rd Year School of Science Male Student, 2020/2021 Semester 1
“It can only help and is just a great place to start; mainly because of the framework and step by step process. The peer setting is not daunting or overwhelming and allows you to explore topics and meet new people in a relaxed, comfortable setting.”
- 4th year Business and Economics Male Student, 2020/2021 Semester 1
“Undertaking any form of advancement in life will challenge all forms of your well-being especially the cognitive mind. During this pandemic many of us have crumbled to shreds to some extent. But with a support group such as #Me we have been able to persevere all throughout to the end.”
- Masters Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering Female Student, 2020/2021 Semester 1
“This course was valuable to help with the stresses of PhD life. It was clear that our group consisted of mainly "older" PhD researchers and I appreciated the opportunity to engage with other students closer to my age. This kind of support is not often available for postgraduates but can have such a positive impact as was seen through this experience.”
- PhD Female Student, 2020/2021 Semester 1
“Encouraging and maintaining positive mental health is vital, especially during Covid-19. And I found my group to be a great source of support. I think the collectiveness of the course and being able to exchange ideas with like-minds can benefit many people. I really enjoyed utilising the resources provided and found the experience very beneficial.”
- PhD Female Student, 2020/2021 Semester 1
“This is just a really amazing system. Having our weekly meetings meant that there was a safe space for all kinds of people - those who’ve seen professionals for mental health before, as well as those who’ve never spoken to anyone. Being able to support each other and have a timetabled session each week to focus on your wellbeing has visible improvements on peoples mood, stress levels and overall wellbeing. Everyone, including facilitators and even those who feel they don’t need any professional mental health support will benefit from this. I’m so glad I took part in my first semester as it really helped me settle in and facilitating now has been such a rewarding experience. I will definitely be signing up to be a facilitator again.”
- 1st Year Female Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences Student, 2019/2020 Semester 2
“It has been great to have regular catch-ups with people who go through the same stresses and high pressure situations that university creates. Where discussion on ways that each of us have found to be either useful or not useful has been very beneficial. Additionally, through the different techniques and #Me methods that are given allows more ways to reduce negative mental health experiences which are explored to allow a more positive mindset when stressful situations occur. It was great having free, unrestrained discussion with a group of people that go through similar feelings / head spaces in stressful, high pressure situations that university creates and then understanding through discussion the different ways we’ve all adjusted to such situations. Big thanks to the organisers! I certainly will be sharing different methods with friends and family I have picked up throughout the time of this course”
- 5th Year Male Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering Student, 2019/2020 Semester 2
“The fact that you get to keep the booklet and cards means you have useful information to return to. It’s a great way to meet a group of people that may be feeling in the same boat as you and the meetings help you feel like you're a part of something and give you a chance to express your thoughts and feelings. Also, I like how everyone in the group including the facilitators are the same age so you don’t feel intimidated and more comfortable.”
- 3rd Year Female Design and Creative Arts Student, 2019/2020 Semester 2
“I would just like to thank everyone part of the #Me organisation for being so friendly, supportive and encouraging during this current situation. It’s been a really good experience. Thank you again for creating this program which is helping many!”
- 2nd Year Female SSH Student, attended in 2019/2020 Semester 1, co-facilitated in Semester 2 and has asked to facilitate again next year
“I had a wonderful experience being both a group member during my first semester and a facilitator this semester and was excited to share my experience. I wanted to thank you for giving me this opportunity since it was a very rewarding and great experience. Also, I would like to say that the 12-week program helped me a lot in improving my overall mental health and learning new ways to cope with my uni stress so thank you very much for that. #Me is an amazing method to improve your mental health so I do hope you guys continue to evolve and improve throughout the years and continue to provide such great support and resources to students. I feel its a good way to find support and do activities to improve your mental health. Irrespective of your background I felt being both a facilitator and group member that you can improve some aspect of your mental health and self-love through this program by sharing experiences and moments with people going through similar things as you are.”
- Masters Male Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences Student, 2019/2020 Semester 2
“It’s a great idea. I really enjoyed the course and have found it to be so beneficial this year. I would really like to facilitate again next year so that I can help other students and also stay on top of my own wellbeing as it’s a good way to be responsible and accountable.
- 2nd Year Female Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences Student, facilitated in both semesters of 2019/2020 academic year and has asked to facilitate again next year
“I felt that even in this stressful situation of uncertainty due to the pandemic, and being a finalist of what the immediate future has in terms of career prospects, that having the #Me group and sessions along with the different coping mechanisms that have been shared has allowed me to overall reduce negative mental health in this period. Thanks all #Me group members for giving us so much help and resources. I’m really happy to be a facilitator and had many great meetings with my lovely members.”
- 3rd Year Male Social Sciences and Humanities Student, 2019/2020 Semester 2
“Setting aside that one hour a week to talk about our wellbeing was so important to me and really gave me a boost each time. With the difficult situation we all experienced this year with quarantine, our zoom sessions replayed face-to-face meetings but still maintained our ability to relate to each other and take a break from everyday life and stress to talk out things relevant to mental health and wellbeing. It helps you to review yourself and provided a nice guided way to defining and reaching small everyday goals, that make life a bit better. As well as improving my overall mental state I’ve also learnt some valuable skills for going forward in university and professional careers.”
- 2nd Year Male Computer Science Student, 2019/2020 Semester 2
“As we approach the end of the semester, I’d like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to be a peer supporter. I’ve found it really enjoyable and it has been an invaluable experience for me. Meeting and connecting with the group has been lovely, and it has been great to have been able to help and support them, so thank you for putting in place the opportunity for this to happen! I’m looking to do a placement related to wellbeing and education in some way, which is the direction that being a facilitator has inspired me towards! So again, many thanks for all that you have done, I think #Me is such a valuable resource and I’m glad to have been able to be a part of it.”
- 2nd Year female facilitator, 2019/2020 Semester 1
“My mental health has definitely improved since starting the course, and I feel way more comfortable talking about it. I'm good friends with my group now and just knowing the support is there really helps. It was manageable to complete the logbook and activities, which in the past I found difficult (e.g. I could never keep up with filling in a diary every day, but the logbook is easy to fill in). It’s really great for forming a support network and I’m so glad I took part.”
- Female 2nd year student, 2019/2020 Semester 1
“I would simply like to say thank you for that hour per week that I was able to listen and be heard, whilst learning how to become a better version of myself. I found it very useful.”
- Male 2nd year student, 2019/2020 Semester 1
